Eleven Projects are the focus of Downtown Buffalo 2002!

In the last issue of Downtown Buffalo 2002! News, the results of the public review of the Downtown Buffalo Strategic Plan were presented and summarized. This public review included a newsletter survey, sent to over 6000 people, an in-depth review requested of 230 stakeholders, a second tier review requested from an additional 500 stakeholders and members of the community, and a daylong Downtown Summit, held on December 4, 1999 at Erie Community College City Campus, attended by 400 citizens.

From this open process emerged a very clear set of priority issues that focused on Living, Working, and Access and Infrastructure Downtown. The complete findings of the public review were published in a technical report that has been available since March of this year at libraries and on the web at http://urbandesignproject.org.

Since that time, the Downtown Buffalo 2002! team has been presenting the results of this review to decision-makers and policy bodies. From these briefings and discussions emerged a clear list of projects that reflect the priorities defined in the review process. The projects are:

LIVING

  • Century Centre I (former Trico)

  • The Watkins Building Renovation

  • The LL Berger’s Adaptive Re-Use

WORKING

  • Century Centre II (former M. Wile)

  • Adelphia National Operations Center

  • The Hampton Inn

ACCESS AND INFRASTRUCTURE

  • Parking Plan Recommendations

  • Metropolitan Transportation Center

  • Inner Harbor Infrastructure

  • Street Circulation Revisions

  • Lighting Improvements on Main Street
